An Overdue Update…..

Well Holy Sheep Shit Batman!!!

I just realized how long it has been since I sat down at my keyboard and talked to you.  Damn that mobile technology!  I hate to post long things on my phone because I am horrible at texting on my so called smart phone.

Ok, so I figured I would give you all some sort of update.  Before I explain where we are at as a band, I should explain where we were before.  Well, at least as far as it comes to music writing.  All of us have bands that we look up to as musicians.  For me, if you didn’t already know, I love Avenged Sevenfold and the writings of Corey Taylor (mostly his Stone Sour stuff).  One of my regrets in life was the fact I never got to see the Rev play live. ***sad face***  Michael Jennings is more of a fan of Killswitch Engage and various prog metal bands.  Erroll loves his Korn.  In fact one of the first things I loved about his playing when he tried out for the band was his Fieldy like sound.  Anywho…the list and examples go on.  The fact is that we all had these different background influences and we wanted to sound or be just like that.  What came out of it was what you heard on stage.  “What’s wrong with that?!?!?!” you may ask…..well here’s the thing, we boxed ourselves into a proverbial genre corner.  We were too all over the place to fit into a certain type of sound.  Which for getting interest is a good thing, because we were different and it got all of your attentions.  So now we get to the point to which we took our break from shows.

At first our intentions for a break from the stage was two-folded: first we needed to work with our new axe-man Joe Moore, then we planned on finishing up on recording our album.  Well we came to point in these recordings where Jennings and I looked at each other and said “What the fuck was that?!?!?!  Have you been playing that the whole time?!?!?!”  We realized we had slapped these songs together, determined that they kicked ass and hopped on stage to share them all with you.  We sat down and realized that we would have to sit down and really touch on these songs again and really look at the parts we played.  Three months had gone come and gone by this point.  So it came to the next big decision.

Take a deep breath here…

Did you do it?

NO????? DO IT!!!!

Ok, are we calm now?

We decided to shelve all those songs and sit down and become the band we should have been in the first place.  Calm down those songs are not “gone”, we have just opened a new chapter in the book of Cyk Cylinder.  That’s right, we have written a whole new set of songs.  This time around we took our song writing process to a whole new level.  We felt we owed it to all of you that when this is all finished…that we would be so tight you would need astro glide just get up in it.  Let me tell you…we busted some ass!  I can’t wait for all of you to hear what we have in store for you.  No, I am not going to give you spoilers…not yet.  Hehehehehe.  What I can say is: we are back!  If you did not notice we have started booking shows.  There are alot of new things that we want to share with you…and from this point on til our return show we will be unveiling some new things to you….one at a time.  But there is one thing I want all of you to understand.  We underwent a metamorphosis during this self titled “Boot Camp”.  We came to know who we are as a band and if I am being honest our sound has changed.  Don’t get scared.  This is a good thing.  We stopped trying to be those bands we loved and started writing music that was in our hearts and souls.  All of us have changed during this period, and I know you will love what we have written.

So that’s all I have for now.  There’s more I want to write about, but that is another post.

P.S. Has anyone else noticed that there is a serious lack of lawn gnomes in Myrtle Beach?
